Information about Rothenburg / Tauber
Rothenburg if he Tauber (Rothenburg odT for short) is one Middle Franconian Small town in the district Ansbach in Bavaria, which lies on the border with Baden-Württemberg. Population about 11.000. With its largely preserved medieval old town, Rothenburg is a world-famous attraction with many monuments and cultural assets. What is outstanding about the old town is that it appears very original, as it has practically no modernist breaks, is surrounded by walkable city fortifications and is embedded in the largely unspoilt, original landscape of the Tauber river valley.
For decades, attempts have been made to preserve this originality as far as possible. Rothenburg is also known for several important museums, such as the criminal museum, the Imperial City Museum, the artisan house and the Christmas Museum of Kathe Wohlfahrt.
Rothenburg was already an important tourist destination in Germany before the Second World War. After the destruction in World War II, most of the buildings were rebuilt true to the original. From 1950 the city became one of the highlights of the Romantic street, the first holiday route in Germany
