Information about Constance & Lake Constance
Konstanz is the largest city with around 83.000 inhabitants Bodensee, and district town of the district of Constance and lies on the border with Switzerland. The neighboring Swiss city Kreuzlingen has grown together with Constance, so that the state border runs through the middle of individual houses and streets, but also to the Tägermoos along the Grenzbach or Sau-Baches. When the weather is good you can see the Alps, especially with the foehn.
On the left (southern) side of the Rhine are mainly the old town and the district of Paradies; most of the newer parts of the city, however, are on the right (northern) side of the Rhine, on the Bodanrück peninsula between the Untersee and the Überlinger See. The old town of Constance and the neighborhoods to the west are the only areas in Germany that lie south of the Seerhein, on the “Swiss side”. This area is - besides the Kollerinsel near Brühl - one of the two left bank areas of the state Baden-Wuerttemberg.
