Straubing is an independent city in the Lower Bavaria region in Eastern Bavaria with almost 47.000 inhabitants. The urban area of Straubing extends along the Danube in east-west direction, with the majority located south of the Danube. North of the Danube are the villages of Hornstorf, Sossau and Unterzeitldorn as well as the area of the Öberau Danube loop, an old water arm of the Danube, with the hamlet of Öberau, parts of the city. South of the Danube, the towns of Kay, Ehetal and Eglsee belong to the city of Straubing.
