. It is the upper, school, administrative and commercial center of the surrounding economic, holiday and planning region Allgäu with around 470.000 inhabitants. The contrasting ground and elevation structure that can still be seen today makes Kempten a twin town. The Mittelstadt lies in the border area with the Austrian federal states Tyrol and Vorarlberg and due to its central location and size it is sometimes called Capital of the Allgäu bezeichnet.
