The "Burg / Stadt an der Günz" lies at the mouth of this river in the Danube. Gunzburg with 20.000 inhabitants is the administrative seat of the district of the same name, which in 1972 came from the independent city of Günzburg and the counties of Günzburg and Krumbach was formed.
