St. Gallen is with about 80.000 inhabitants on the Steinach river in the Bodensee, flows into and is the capital of the eastern Swiss canton of St. Gallen. As the center of Eastern Switzerland, it is located on the main traffic axes Munich-Zurich and Constance-Lucerne and is considered the gateway to the city Appenzell. In addition to the highest cantonal authorities, the University of St. Gallen is also based in the city. St. Gallen takes its name from the wandering monk Gallus, which is why it is also called Gallusstadt. Of the Sitterdorf airfield lies exactly in the middle between St. Gallen and Constance. The airport can be reached in just 30 minutes from both cities. There is also a leisure and animal park on the site, including a garden railway that connects the parts of the site with one another. A restaurant is open all year round.
